 Russian Waterways Cruise – May to September 2011
 

Day 1: St. Petersburg arrival and embarkation. Dinner and overnight.

Day 2: St. Petersburg city tour. Enjoy the extravagant Baroque architecture of the city, Nevsky Prospect, Palace Square, Smolny Convent and Peter and Paul Fortress. Lunch and dinner.

Day 3: This morning we will visit the Winter Palace home of the Hermitage. This afternoon you will have free time to explore St. Petersburg on your own. Tonight we set sail. Lunch and dinner.

Day 4: Arrival at the village of Svir Stroy .This is a recreational stop specifically designed for you to enjoy the rustic atmosphere and famous Russian cuisine and hospitality. Lunch and dinner.

Day 5: We sail Lake Onega and arrival at the island of Kizhi an architectural gem. The island is famous for its wonderful collection of 18th century wooden buildings, restored to their original stature. The highlight of Kizhi is the amazing Church of the Transfiguration with its 22 onion domes. This magnificent structure was built entirely without a single nail. Lunch and dinner on board.

Day 6: Goritsky – Visit Cyrilo-Belozersky Monastery, which has six centuries of glorious history. A home to the most exquisite icon collection in the world. Lunch and dinner on board.

Day 7: Uglich – Take a walking tour of this lovely 10th century town – one of Russia’s oldest. Visit the Kremlin with its 16th century Church of the Transfiguration. Lunch and dinner on board.

Day 8: Arrival in Moscow. Sightseeing motor coach tour of the city including Tverskaya Street, Red Square. St. Basil’s Cathedral, Bolshoi Theater, and Moscow State University for a panoramic view of the city. Lunch and dinner on board.

Day 9: Moscow – Tour of the Kremlin. Originally a fortress it comprises beautiful cathedrals, ornate palaces and government buildings. Visit the Cathedral of the Assumption. Lunch and dinner.

Day 10: Time to bid farewell to your new friends. Transfer to Moscow airport.

Tour includes entertainment and lectures on board ship, breakfast, lunch and dinner, sightseeing and entrance fees as described. There are also optional excursions available.

Town and city tour highlights are subject to change without prior notice. There can also be changes because of weather conditions.

Extensions in St. Petersburg and Moscow can be arranged.

 Tuscany and Umbria, the Heart of Italy
 

Day 1: You will pick up your rental car in Florence and immerse your self in the Tuscan country side. Arrive at your specially picked Agri-Tourism Hotel or Small Inn in Chianti. Take time along the way to enjoy the scenery and small villages along the way. Overnight at the property of your choice.

Day 2: Siena – Explore the hill towns on your way to Siena. On arrival in Sienna visit the splendid Cathedral, the Piazza Del Campo and stroll the streets laid out over the hill. Stop for a lunch in one of the many small tattorias.

Day 3: Chianti – Return home to your hotel. We suggest a cooking class preparing a full menu and enjoy the fruits of your labour or spend the day exploring the many hill towns such as San Gimignano.

Day 4: Crete Senese, Montalcino – Drive through the ‘Crete Senese’ the chalk hills covered with olive groves and dotted with the cypress trees, and old stone farms houses. Visit the Abbey of Oliveto Maggiore, the fortified wine village of Montalcino.

Day 5: Cortona, Assissi – Motor through the countryside and visit the charming medieval hill towns of Cortona and Assissi. The end of the day will bring you to your hotel in central Umbria.

Day 6: Perugia,Torgiano – We suggest a visit to Perugia to stroll along the Corso Vanucci admiring medieval palaces and enjoying a stop at one of the cafes offering the famous chocolate made in the area. Then on to Torgiano to visit the Lungarotti Wine Museum and Olive Oil Museum.

Day 7: Montefalco, Spoleto – In Montefalco visit the towns museum and shop for linen, a traditional handicraft. Visit an ancient olive oil mill for a tour and light lunch of local specialties selected to match the mills oil. Continue this afternoon to visit Spoleto and enjoy strolling the city centre.

Day 8: Departure. After breakfast depart for the airport for your return flight.
